About Ryan Munro
Quark Academy Trainer
Ryan now calls Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick his home. Growing up all over New Brunswick, Canada his passion was hockey. Ryan played, and eventually coached, at the minor hockey and high school levels. His interests evolved when he moved to Jasper, Alberta in the Canadian Rockies and discovered mountaineering, climbing, and mountain biking. Soon after moving back to the East Coast, he began sea kayaking and took his first stroke at a certified course in 2008. Since then, he has become a Paddle Canada sea kayak Level 4 paddler and a Paddle Canada sea kayak Level 2 Instructor. He has taken BCU coastal water and open water navigation courses and holds an advanced remote first responder certificate.
Ryan earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, after which he pursued a professional accounting designation. Working for McCain Foods in his hometown of Florenceville, he worked in the corporate business world for three years. He then proudly supported the Canadian Armed Forces, working as a Finance Coordinator operating out of Kandahar, Afghanistan for two years. Ryan began working in the Polar Regions for Quark in 2013 and is also involved with Outward Bound Canada where he works as an Outdoor Educator. Ryan loves to be outside, whether it is in a kayak, on foot, or gardening his oceanside front yard. Exploring in the Polar Regions brings a passion and love for the environment. He is always excited to be in the Polar Regions, as he loves exploring new sites, meeting fascinating people, and continuously learning about these places.
