Boomer's affinity for adventure and northern climates originated as a youth in Canada's far north, spending summers in the bush and winters in the snow. He now lives with his family on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. As a full-time photographer for the past 30 years, Boomer has authored three photography books and contributes to numerous stock agencies including Getty, Alamy, Agefotostock and All Canada Photos. A fervent photo educator, Boomer has led multi-day photo tours into the Great Bear Rainforest, day trips along British Columbia's central coast, and is expanding his repertoire to include Africa.

Boomer has been traveling the world since 2014, working as a photographer-in-residence aboard expedition cruise vessels, and guiding in Antarctica and Svalbard. Most recently he has expanded his guiding resume to include Canada’s far north working as a polar bear guide. Boomer loves to teach and help facilitate photographers with their “a-hah!” moments. When a technical setting, a different perspective or new photo technique has the photographer excited to capture new images.

“My most poignant polar experience occurred on the bow of our ship as it pushed through ice, and a guest caught a glimpse of her first polar bear. She looked at me afterwards with tears in her eyes, and was unable to speak other than to give me a big hug”.
