About Justin Schaay
Justin has salt water flowing through his veins: he grew up exploring the rugged coastline of South Africa, windsurfing, surfing and sailing the Cape of Storms. When his family could draw him away from the ocean, they would head off into the bush on safari. These adventures nurtured a deep love for the natural world and the ocean, leading him to pursue a degree in geography and environmental science at the University of Cape Town.
That passion for travel and the outdoors took Justin on a journey to remote locations, including a sailing trip spent island hopping across the Atlantic. Between trips, Justin has worked as a naturalist and guide on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. He’s also very passionate about stand-up paddleboarding and surfing and enjoys competing in distance paddleboard races, with his favorites being the Everglades Challenge in Florida, which is a 300-mile (483 km) journey from Tampa Bay to Key Largo, and the Molokai 2 Oahu Paddleboard World Championship crossing the “Chanel of Bones” in Hawaii.
When he’s not exploring, teaching or competing, Justin can be found in charming Charleston, South Carolina, where he lives with his family alongside a small tidal creek surrounded by salt marsh and majestic oak trees.
Justin is excited to share his passion for SUP with you on this new adventure in the Southern Ocean.
